Francesca Loren

Artist's
Statement

Art is the great escape to the mysterious realms within.

Whether it's painting, ballet, opera, it doesn't matter, what does matter is that it takes you to your personal sacred place. It's completely subjective - we resonate to different frequencies and harmonies. The act of creation is luminous/beautiful/magnificent... and that is echoed by the act of reaction when experiencing the piece in progress or at it's temporary resting place.

Musings of this artist...

My earliest childhood memory is of, at the age of 3, painting the backyard fence with my father. I have loved to paint for as long as I can remember, but I do get more satisfaction now from working in oils on canvas. In the last few years, I have gravitated towards painting the flowers from my garden. I enjoy the drama that I can create by turning those delicate and fleeting blooms into large imposing paintings. I love the challenge of not only reproducing the essence of the flower, but also making it sing and dance on the canvas.

Through teaching, I learn.

Classical music plays a large part in my life. I find deep inspiration listening to music while I paint. Although I love music of all types, give me Brahms or Puccini any day......
Casals playing Bach; Frank Glazer playing Chopin, Shirley Verrett or Bryn Terfel singing,
Bramwell Tovey, or Gustavo Dudamel conducting, or the music of Leonard Bernstein and Osvaldo Golijov.

I'm passionate about painting, teaching painting, and music - I hope it shows!!!
